Licensing and subscription guidance

Autodesk subscription plans

Autodesk software is delivered through subscription plans that provide access to software updates, cloud services and support.

Customers can choose between Standard, Premium and Enterprise subscription options depending on their organisation’s size, security requirements and administrative needs.

Key guidance

Selecting the correct subscription plan helps organisations manage users more effectively while ensuring the right level of support and reporting capabilities.

Named user licensing

Autodesk software is licensed on a named user basis. Each subscription must be assigned to an individual user through Autodesk Account.

Important

A single subscription may only be used by the user it is assigned to.

Previous version rights

Subscribers to Autodesk software can install and use previous versions as part of their subscription benefits through Autodesk Previous Version Rights.
This allows teams to run earlier versions where required while transitioning to the latest release.
Important
The number of active installations must not exceed the number of licences included in your subscription.

Single sign-on

Autodesk supports single sign-on authentication, allowing users to access Autodesk products using their organisation’s network credentials.

This improves security, simplifies access and allows administrators to manage authentication through their existing identity provider.
Benefit
User access can be removed automatically through the organisation’s identity management system.

Subscription programmes and compliance

Maintenance to Subscription transition

Autodesk introduced the Move to Subscription programme to help customers transition from legacy maintenance plans to the modern subscription model.

Customers who moved to subscription through this programme may benefit from protected pricing and gradual renewal adjustments.
Key guidance
Pricing adjustments are limited to approximately five percent every second year until 2028.

Transition to named user programmes

Autodesk introduced transition programmes to help customers move from multi-user licences to named user subscriptions.

These programmes helped organisations modernise licence management and align with Autodesk’s current licensing model.

Important

Subscriptions created through these programmes may still carry special discount identifiers that affect renewal pricing.
